Advertised Job Summary
The Assistant Director (AD) of Human Resources is a key member in the Office of the Dean. She/he will assist with the human resource operations of the College of Arts and Sciences, by providing administrative support to the Director of Human Resources in managing the Office of Human Resources in the College; includes oversight and management of various human resources actions. Will assist the Director in coordinating the human resources operations of the College to include, but not limited to, the hiring and reappointing of faculty, staff, students, and temporary employees, tenure and promotion, post-tenure review, third-year review, retention actions, sabbatical leaves, dual employment, ECOM processes, resignations, and retirements. Evaluates the personnel management activities of all 51 units to ensure compliance with federal, state and University policies and procedures. The AD will be responsible in managing the human capital management in the hiring of classified staff. Will also be responsible for reviewing and approving various human resources actions for classified staff FTE personnel, including but not limited to, creating, updating, and/or reviewing position descriptions, reviewing and approving job requisitions, processing new hire documents, reviewing and processing dual appointments for staff, processing and submitting resignations, and retirements. The incumbent will serve as a Corporate Administrator for E-verify for the College. Will work with the Budget Office to research and/or correct any errors regarding salary, account changes, etc. and generate paperwork as needed for these actions. The Assistant Director of Human Resources is expected to maintain official personnel files for all FTE classified staff by filing all processed HR documents in a timely manner. Maintains and updates, as needed, the classified staff database for the College and various other spreadsheets on behalf of the Director. Will oversee the College's EPMS processes annually and advise units, as needed, on the required procedures and paperwork. The Assistant Director will assist the Director of Human Resources with the faculty review processes as requested, including but not limited to reviewing dossiers, paperwork, etc. for Third Year Reviews, Tenure and Promotion, and Post Tenure Reviews. Must be willing to contribute to the overall success of the College by performing other related duties as required or assigned by the Director and/or Dean of the College.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Master's degree and 5 years related experience in business, public administration or administrative services, or bachelor's degree and 7 years related experience; or equivalency.Preferred Qualifications
Considerable experience and knowledge of policies and procedures related to the University's faculty personnel operations, faculty review processes, Summer employment (ECOM), and academic affairs (ACAF) policies and procedures.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to analyze and present ideas in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing. Strong team player skills and the ability to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce is a must. Must have writing skills sufficient to compose and edit a variety of documents using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and proofread work carefully. Good organizational, time management, customer service and problem-solving skills and the ability to work accurately and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions. Work requires initiative and independent judgment. Must be proactive and creative, identifying process improvement opportunities. Ability to maintain electronic and hard copy records and files for easy access and retrieval.
