Essential functions of this position:
The Assistant Director of Facilities Operations, in coordination with the Director of Campus Life Facilities and Business Operations, is responsible for general Campus Life facility operations for environmental design necessary in providing spaces, programs and service which promote community, student development and engagement. These program and services include student staff supervision and development, oversight of general and preventative maintenance functions, and director of all health and safety functions. The Assistant Director supervises one full-time employee and up to 25 student employees including building manager, facility assistant, and information center employees. The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Campus Life management team and assists with strategic planning and budget development processes.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Knowledge of student development and being able to manage student employees
High interpersonal organizational and management skills to maintain skills to maintain a competent operation
Ability to be an effective supervisor (hiring, training, scheduling, discipline, evaluation, etc.)
Basic understanding of facilities systems preferred (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.)
Knowledge of environmental design and application in development of community and learning spaces
Ability to organize and effectively present information to groups or individuals in various formats
Knowledge of databases and the ability to develop implement and maintain interdepartmental systems in keeping with university procedures
Possess computer literacy with the ability to learn new applications independently
Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to role model quality customer service
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree with related experience required
Experience with student personnel supervision at the collegiate level
Knowledge of student staff training with professional development plans and ability to implement/execute formal training and development activities
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the Physical Plant, Project Management, Environmental Health and Services, and Purchasing departments and other university support services is essential
Ability to lead projects and communicate facilities needs to other team members is essential
Facility Management and risk management experience preferred
Recruitment Range: $43,000 - $47,351
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 62
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday, occasional weekend and nights
Work Hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM, flexibility required
