About The Unit: The laboratory of David Freedman at The University of Chicago investigates the neuronal mechanisms of visual learning, memory and recognition and is looking for a full-time technician to provide support for its research. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic team and contributing to cutting-edge scientific research. The laboratory is located on the main campus of The University of Chicago, in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois

Unit Job Summary: Research Specialist 1: The candidate will be tasked with overseeing the implementation of projects and adapting existing procedures to the needs of current and future project designs. Training and supervising research personnel, tracking project expenditures and monitoring/troubleshooting research equipment will be a primary task. General laboratory responsibilities include overseeing the ordering of supplies, ensuring the maintenance and documentation of laboratory inventory, and ensuring compliance with all safety requirements. Scheduling experiments, laboratory meetings and assisting in the maintenance and documentation of animal health and welfare is a daily responsibility. The candidate will also assist personnel in training animals to perform computer based behavioral tasks on a daily basis. The candidate must be able to handle multiple projects, solve problems independently with limited direction and be able to work accurately with attention to detail.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted required.

Unit Experience: Experience in animal research or veterinary medicine is required. Experience with non-human primates is preferred.
