Essential functions of this position:
This position functions as an employee of the Landscape Services Section, to perform general grounds maintenance to include trash pickup, new landscaping, irrigation repair, edging, pruning, mowing, general manicuring of all campus properties, parking lot maintenance and other associated duties as determined by supervisor or administration. This role will also function as a working crew leader for the landscaping of new areas and general grounds maintenance of improved land areas.
Position is also considered a part of essential personnel who can be asked to work outside of normal schedule due to emergency events or weather crisis. Subject to overtime.
Performs semi-skilled grounds management to include performing various functions such as edging, pruning, and mowing, general manicuring of all University properties, housing areas, parking lot maintenance, trash pick-up and other associated duties as needed. This position may install equipment related to landscape functions. May operate Backhoe, sprayers and other skilled equipment as directed. This position will be responsible for the proper care and storage of equipment.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Ability to follow directions and learn new skills while on the job
A working knowledge of landscape maintenance and ability to operate large and small equipment
Must demonstrate good verbal communication skills to effectively communicate information to coworkers as well as provide information to the general public in a courteous and informed manner
Must demonstrate an understanding of the safe and proper handling of equipment and machinery associated with landscape functions

Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
A working knowledge of landscape maintenance and ability to operate large and small equipment
An agricultural background is helpful; also any background in maintenance of equipment, sidewalks and roadways is also helpful

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Valid NC Driver’s License

Recruitment Range: $24,443 - $25,726
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 53
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)

Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 6:30AM - 3:30PM
