Duties: Reporting to the IT Senior Manager for Platforms Engineering, the IT Architect performs complex and varied technical work with the goal of providing effective platforms for running University enterprise and customer applications. Develop solutions to resolve complex technical issues; translate business requirements into process designs; define standards, methods, and best practices. Viewed internally and externally as a technical expert and critical resource; may provide technical direction to others. Work with vendors or other external providers. Provide leadership for architecture design and product evaluation and technical oversight in equipment evaluations and recommendations of new products. Maintain expert level knowledge of technologies for application to the enterprise; benchmark across industry. May lead special projects, including enterprise-wide projects. May represent organization on university technical committees.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in technical area and a minimum of four years of experience, including production server administration experience with new system builds and ongoing systems support in both cloud-based and on-premises environments and infrastructure as code (Amazon Web Services, MS Azure, Google Compute, VCloud Air, VMware). Application and platform deployment automation experience (combinations of git, Jenkins, puppet, r10k, chef, ansible, Docker, AWS CloudFormation, YAML, JSON, node.js, python). Strong AWS microservices, lambda and RDS experience a plus. Strong documentation skills, including work with Visio or Lucidchart a plus.
