Duties: Scientific responsibilities include: Conduct tissue culture experiments on embryonic stem cells, neural progenitor cells, induced pluripotent stem cells and organoids and harvest and grow MEF feeder layers. Perform minipreps and maxipreps to prepare vectors for genome engineering. Clone sgRNA and CRISPR/Cas9 constructs into standard vector backbones. Conduct and optimize transfection assays and also prepare and characterize lentiviral particles for genome engineering and assist in the long-term culture of whole brain organoids. Perform clonal selection and screening after transfection.
Administrative responsibilities include: Assist the PI to negotiate prices with vendors on lab reagents from sales representatives,training new students on equipment, calling technical support and leading efforts to fix lab equipment when it breaks down.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, developmental biology or related field and 1 year to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Highly organized and technically competent with a willingness to learn and adapt to a rapidly moving field required. Experience or high degree of interest in genome editing technologies and mammalian tissue culture preferred. Prior experience working in a lab preferred.
