Position Summary: This individual will be responsible for the coordinated scientific direction and technical and administrative oversight of the diagnostic and consultative services within the McLendon Clinical Laboratories Core Laboratory (UNC Health Care) and, where needed, extending to additional sites within the UNC Health Care network. The MCL Core Laboratory is a busy, high-complexity laboratory whose services span all aspects of clinical chemistry, hematology, and coagulation, and includes laboratory developed testing. The position will focus on clinical chemistry but the individual will have a close administrative relationship with the associate directors of hematology and coagulation. Responsibilities include provision of consultative services to physicians regarding test utilization and interpretation, active engagement in quality assurance activities including those related to accreditation, and strategic planning to ensure the laboratory maintains itself as a state of the art facility. Duties will also include active participation in the educational mission of the department including the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical, dental, and clinical laboratory science students. Education Requirements: Applicants must hold either an MD degree with board certification in clinical pathology or a Ph.D. degree with board certification in clinical chemistry by the ABCC

Qualification and Experience: Applicants must hold either an MD degree with board certification in clinical pathology or a Ph.D. degree with board certification in clinical chemistry by the ABCC, and at least five years of experience in an academic laboratory medicine setting. The successful candidate must also have a demonstrated record of professional service and academic achievement through independent research and scholarly publications.
