Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's Degree is required; an Associate's Degree from an accredited court reporting or broadcast captioning program, combined with relevant certifications and sufficient years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree for a highly qualified candidate.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of one year captioning or real time equivalence experience preferred.
Awareness and comfort in working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people including knowledge or desire to learn sign language; working knowledge of disability issues.
Phonetic aptitude for writing real time at an average minimum speed of 180+ WPM and 95%+ accuracy rate.
Working knowledge of real time captioning software programs such as Eclipse and remote realtime software programs such as Teleview.
Reporting to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Accommodation Specialist, the incumbent will provide real time captioning service in the educational environment through a computer-aided real time medium.
While it is preferred for this person to work on-site at the McBurney Center office, this position also allows the ability to work from home if they are able to meet internal security requirements. The employee must provide their own equipment and have compatible internet speeds to work from home.
