Who we are:

The Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) is a research institute within the Graduate School of the University of Colorado Boulder. Since its establishment in 1957, IBS has provided a setting for interdisciplinary collaborative research on problems of societal concern. IBS is organized into five research programs, each defined by an interdisciplinary area of research and directed by a senior research scientist. Three programs have centers which specialize in research topics consistent with the broader goals of the Program. Computing and Research Services provide computing and information technology services for IBS research activities.

What your key responsibilities will be:

IBS presently seeks two (2) Project Coordinators with an emphasis on Sponsored Project Operations.

In this role, you will work with the IBS administrative team providing support and assistance to Principal Investigators (PIs), the Senior Program Manager, and our research teams. With help and guidance from the IBS Director, you will perform tasks for pre- and post-grant projects, helping us stay in compliance with all applicable regulations. You'll review and prepare a variety of transactions and research, and provide in-depth information on questions related to project budget compliance. Based on your research, you'll also advise Principal Investigators on project and Research Institute budget issues. Your responsibilities will include such varied tasks as:
  • Supporting PIs and administration in the submission and management of grants, including preparation of pre-award grant applications, developing budgets, and processing other requests for funding.
  • Developing and assisting with the management of internal budgets for research projects.
  • Reviewing spending trends and reconciling expenses while monitoring project personnel costs, operating expenses, and travel.
  • Tracking project start and end dates; requesting extensions as necessary.
  • Allocating funding distribution for project employees against various projects; preparing and creating PETs as needed; recommending and preparing journal entries and submissions.
  • Independently researching and resolving fiscal-related issues by data mining financial systems.
  • Interacting with CU campus departments such as OCG, SPA, and PSC.
  • Processing Purchase Requests, Scopes of Work, Payment Vouchers, Vendor Requests, and Travel Reimbursements for research personnel.
  • Updating websites, setting-up and maintaining domains, web hosting, and administering credit card payment systems.
  • Coordinating training classes including registration, reservations, logistics and client feedback survey, as well as communicating with domestic and international consulting groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The salary range for this position starts at $43,000, and will depend in large measure on relevant background and experience. What we require:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or related field OR a combination of education and relevant experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience in coordination or administration of sponsored project operations.

What you will need:
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Excellent attention to detail

What we'd like you to have:
  • Two (2) years of experience in coordination or administration of sponsored project operations.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Cognos, Concur, and other University systems.
  • Demonstrated skills in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Understanding of fund accounting principles.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
