Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred in linguistics or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with students in a higher education setting required. Experience in academic advising is highly preferred; experience in counseling or student services in a higher education environment may be substituted. Strong communication skills (written, oral and electronic). Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, campus colleagues, and prospective students.
This position serves as academic advisor in the Department of Linguistics for both undergraduate and graduate students. This advisor will serve the undergraduate population as well as represent the department at SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration), campus committees as well as professional-related workshops during the summer. This advisor will also attend the SROP (Summer Research Opportunities Programs) through the Graduate School Resource Fair to showcase graduate programs and campus resources for under-represented students.
