Assistant or Associate Professor in Food Science-Extension Specialist

Job Summary: The successful applicant will provide leadership and scholarship in food safety or food processing outreach and research. Specific responsibilities include: (1) develop Extension programs and materials for delivery to working professionals in the food industry and regulatory agencies; (2) develop and deliver timely, professional food safety or food processing information to County Agents and the general public as needed; (3) obtain extramural funds to support Extension and research programs; (4) establish a strong record of scholarly activity, and (5) direct PhD and MS degree students and postdoctoral associates. The successful candidate will actively participate in the research and Extension activities in the Department of Food Science and Technology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on collaborative projects with a wide variety of groups including those on campus and local and federal agencies. Areas of particular interest for future research include transmission and ecology of foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms in fresh and processed foods. The individual in this position will be expected to achieve a record of scholarly activity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, successful extramural funding and success in delivering timely, professional Extension programs and mentoring graduate students. Minimum Qualifications: A completed PhD in Food Science or equivalent program is required with demonstrated expertise in food safety and food processing.

Preferred Qualifications: The Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Georgia is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to develop Extension and research programs in the area of food safety and/or food processing. Candidates should be familiar with FDA and USDA regulatory activities and policies. At least 1 year of postdoctoral or prior academic experience is desired. Candidates should either demonstrate the track record (Associate Professor) or show the potential (Assistant Professor) to obtain external funding to support their Extension and research programs. The candidates must demonstrate excellent oral and written competencies, interpersonal skills, and willingness to work in multidisciplinary teams.
