Academic AdvisorPosition Summary
The Student Affairs Office within the College of Education at Michigan State University seeks an Academic Advisor to advise and support a diverse population of students in achieving academic success, with particular emphasis on undergraduate programs. This position will serve as academic advisor to teacher candidates, including those in elementary, secondary, and special education; advise special student populations such as student athletes, Honors College students, students considering study abroad, and post-bachelor’s students seeking teacher certification; participate in a full-range of student affairs activities, including academic orientation programs (AOP), degree and internship eligibility clearance, recruitment of prospective students, and record keeping.Required Degree
Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field; at least two years of experience as an academic advisor in a University setting; expansive experience using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software; excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and technology skills; ability to establish rapport across ethnic, racial, cultural and gender differences.
Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field; knowledge of University policies and procedures, electronic advising tools (e.g., SIS, ESAF, Student Success Dashboard), University resources, and study abroad programs; experience working with non-traditional students, including post-bachelor’s students.
