Director Student Experience (Associate Dean of Student Affairs)

As a member of the Dean's Council, the Director, Student Affairs (Experience) works collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans, Heads of Department, Program Directors, Campus Administrator, Security Team, Faculty, and Staff to develop a high level of student engagement and an exemplary level of student morale. The post holder must be an outstanding communicator, display gravitas in dealings with campus colleagues and students and develop presence with key stakeholders in the wider St Kitts and Nevis community.

The post holder develops the policies, programs, and staffing which support intellectual, educational, and community-building activities in student services areas. The position is also involved with disciplinary and advisory functions involving students. The Director of Student Affairs (Experience) works with individual students and groups to resolve personal, academic, and community problems. The goal of these efforts is to develop the principles of citizenship by fostering civility, responsibility and professional behavior among students on campus and throughout the St Kitts and Nevis community.

Reports to: The Dean and Associate Dean for Student & Alumni Affairs

Direct Reports:

The Director is responsible student service operations and for leading and managing the following functions led by six managers/supervisors (see attached organizational chart):

• Student Services Office (includes the Student Union and Fitness Center)
• Health & Counseling Services (includes Disability Services)
• Student Success Center
• Financial Aid
• Residential Life (housing is limited to first semster and not a typical US dorm structure)

  • Leadership and overall responsibility for the student experience.
  • Management and strategic direction for the student experience team. Must be able to effectively lead through others.
  • Responsible for student crisis management (encompasses counseling, medical care, emergency travel, financial).
  • Development of strategy and policy for student services (professionalism, student disciplinary issues and code of conduct violations).
  • Ensure compliance with University regulations (including working with specialists across all institutions in areas of Legal, Regulatory and Title IX).
  • Responsible for leading diversity and inclusion efforts including cultural competency training for students and student-based activities.
  • Development and maintenance of metrics, specifically measuring excellence for student services, emphasizing operational efficiency and service excellence.
  • Accountability for student engagement surveys and student government relations.
  • Responsible for maintaining a quality clinical affiliates student experience (working closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs & Professional Opportunities).
  • Responsible for recruitment with the student experience team.
  • Responsible for budget development and implementation for student experience department.
  • Responsible for social media interaction with the campus students and also the wider community.
  • Serves as liaison with our security department to ensure positive student experience.
  • Any other duties as required by the Dean.


  • Masters's degree with graduate certification in higher education administration, arts administration, public administration, counseling, or related fields.
  • Further qualifications relevant to the position are desirable
  • Minimum 7 years of successful progressive professional experience, and previous experience in a higher education student focused environment with a working knowledge of functional units.
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and bets practices for Student Affairs professionals
  • Exemplary and proven organization, leadership and supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students
  • A strong commitment to student development, experiential learning, and a high level of student interaction is essential.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication, computer, and data management skills and an unwavering commitment to customer service.
