The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory and Research Specialist to assist senior investigators with the development of in vitro, cell-based, and whole organism assays for analysis of autonomic nervous system function related to hypertension, SIDS and obstructive sleep apnea. The individual will be expected to help assist with both in vitro, and whole organism pharmacological, optogenic, and electrophysiological experiments in rodents. Moreover, this individual will be expected to assist senior investigators with daily laboratory management, to train junior research staff, to help laboratory members with experimental design, to perform data management/visualization, and to assist with manuscript/grant compilation. Immunohistochemistry, sterile technique, fluorescence microscopy, and additional molecular biology experience will be necessary.
A Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field and one year of laboratory experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting is required (classroom experience may be considered). Experience in small animal handling is also required. Familiarity with BSL2 requirements preferred.
This position is restricted and contingent on the continuation of funding.
