About The Unit: Annually named to the US News & World Report list of the best hospitals in the USA, the clinical facilities at the University of Chicago currently includes Mitchell Hospital, a 395-bed adult hospital facility, Comer Children's Hospital with 155 beds, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine, a 525,000 square foot outpatient clinic and surgery facility. In addition, a 1.2 million square foot new hospital, the Center for Care and Discovery, opened in February 2013. The Department of Radiology operates facilities in all of these locations to provide multidisciplinary care and education.

Unit Job Summary: Advanced Practice Nurse: Work closely with physicians in an expanding Body imaging procedural service. Assess, evaluate, and assume accountability in delivering specialty clinical care to inpatients and outpatients through utilization of resources, and self-direction. In collaboration with a physician partner, develop, implement, and evaluate a program of specialized health care for a select patient population. The clinical role includes history and physical, evaluation of patients, ordering of laboratory/pathology studies and performance of standardized procedures such as ultrasound guided biopsies, arthrograms, lumbar punctures and other minimally invasive procedures. The candidate may participate in daily rounds and educational sessions with the rest of the team. Communicate with patient' ordering physician regarding hospital care and follow-up. Coordinate and arrange appropriate outpatient follow-up for patients as needed. Practice responsibilities are in accordance with the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act, AHS administrative policies, and collaborative agreement of the ACNP and physician partner.

Unit Education: Advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing required. Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse (APN) license by start date required. Current license as a Registered Nurse required.

Unit Experience: Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills required. Critical care experience preferred. Two years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty preferred.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills required. Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments required. Ability to interview and obtain medical information required. Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire required. Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number required. Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCMC Medical Staff Office prior to start date required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently required. Strong organizational skills required. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skill required. Proficiency in the use of computers preferred.
