Required Qualifications: (As Evidenced by an attached resume)

Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree in Ecology and Evolution, Evolutionary Biology or related field in hand by August 15, 2017.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in statistical methodologies. Prior published work using Rasch/IRT psychometric methods. Prior experience working with faculty in large, introductory biology courses. Experience managing large datasets. Strong communication skills. Familiarity with the content of introductory biology courses. Publication record.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the department of Ecology & Evolution. The incumbent will work on NSF-funded grant project seeking to advance the adoption of open-response assessment in large undergraduate biology course. These assessment will be used in order to help the faculty better understand students thinking and learning difficulties as well as to design instructional resources to address these difficulties.

The primary responsibility of this position is the development, application, analysis and interpretation of assessment data. In addition, the Postdoctoral Associate will also have responsibility to analyze how faculty use the assessments in their teaching.

The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

  • Development, collection, analysis, and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Meetings with faculty and research team to discuss research methods and results.
  • Database management
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

Special Notes: Due to the unique research goal of this project, this position is designed to be part-time, as ideal candidate could maintain a concurrent teaching assignment (part-time). Some weekend hours may be required. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
