Job Description

Reporting to the School Administrator the Simulation Lab Manager will oversee the technical operation of the High & Low Fidelity Labs. This will include the patient simulators, servers, audio-visual equipment, simulation capture system, and simulation software programs. S/He will be responsible for the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of all IT-related hardware and software.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: managing the day-to day operations, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of simulators, AV equipment and the simulation capture system; communicating with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs and updates for all simulation equipment. Oversight of the technical and operational systems design, policies, planning and support for IT-related needs; working with Nursing faculty to develop the capabilities of the Simulation Center, evaluate new IT-related equipment, identify opportunities to technological improvement, and improve Center operations; participating in the development and creation of multimedia resources for students; training staff, faculty and students on the use and operation of simulation equipment; managing, organizing and archiving video recordings; assisting in maintaining the Center's equipment and supply inventory. Audio-visual support and management of observation and control rooms. The incumbent will provide hands-on support to mediated spaces and labs. This position will maintain and support the specialized observation rooms, as well as patch and troubleshoot custom audio/video recording equipment and its corresponding servers. Working with the MSU IT System Infrastructure and Operations (SIO) group, this individual will manage servers to ensure that clinical and simulation data are stored and backed up. Assist with the implementation of scenarios for simulation in labs. Setup and maintain simulation mannequins to ensure that they are working correctly with the system. Ensure simulation laboratories are properly prepared for faculty and student utilization in a timely manner. Maintain observation cameras and videos to support the pedagogical needs. Will work with MSU IT SIO group, implement, manage, and maintain servers that contain video and classroom content Performing other responsibilities and duties as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus two years of related experience. BSN or MSN is preferred.

The Simulation Lab Manager will have at least two (2) years of specific experience in audiovisual, information technology or computer technology, as well as at least two (2) years of experience in simulation or a related field. Experience with networked systems, including wireless networks, is essential for this role. The successful incumbent will also have experience in providing technical assistance, including the ability to express technical information effectively to non-technical persons.

The Manager must possess the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, and work on multiple projects simultaneously. S/He must demonstrate excellent written communication skills and the proven ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision making. The person selected for this role must maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling student files and personal student information.

Flexibility and adaptability to work varying schedules and hours including evenings and weekends is necessary.

A Simulation Operations Specialists certification from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is highly preferred for this role.

Experience in the operation, installation, trouble-shooting, and maintenance of computer networks and audio visual systems in an academic and/or healthcare related field is a plus.
