The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) for a 1.0 FTE, benefits-eligible, clinical instructor position with its CU Center for Midwifery (CFM) faculty practice in Longmont, Colorado. Births will occur at the new Longs Peak Hospital in Longmont. This is a full scope position including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care.

The CNM is clinic based as a health care provider, 40 hours per week, and is hired at the level of a clinical practice track Instructor within the College of Nursing.

Faculty Practice Description:

The CU Center for Midwifery at Longmont is a private practice model that works collaboratively with the OB/GYN physicians on staff. We offer women and families many services including individualized care, alternative labor/birth options, childbirth education, lactation services, water birth and referrals to provider groups within the system and community. The practice provides full-scope midwifery care to women at three locations with births occurring at the Longs Peak Hospital. CFM believes that women benefit from personalized and comprehensive care that focuses on the patient while including the family in the plan of care. We serve women who desire an alternative labor and birth experience with a water birth and nitrous oxide option. The CNM will be part of a midwifery service that has a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system. The Longmont practice is new and CNMs will be expected to actively participate in practice development and promotion. The CU Center for Midwifery at Longmont will consist of 3 CNMs when hospital opens in fall of 2017.

Supervision Received:

Work is performed independently under the general direction and authority of the Director for CFM within the College of Nursing (CON) faculty practices and the Associate Dean for Community and Clinical Affairs.

Supervision Exercised:

Student supervision is required during clinical placements.

Examples of work performed:

  • Provide full scope care to the gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient
  • Provide care in the outpatient clinic, triage unit, and intrapartum unit
  • Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills in the outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Attend monthly practice meetings and participate in a minimum of one-practice and/or College of Nursing committees.
  • Educate health care team students (APNs, medical students, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations
  • Provide water birth option to low risk women
  • Participate in practice development, promotion and community outreach.
  • This is a health care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious disease.
  • Active participation in health plan contracts.
  • Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.

Conditions of Employment:

Applicant must be willing and able to provide full scope contraceptive services and counseling on abortion services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or midwifery
  • Current AMCB certification
  • A minimum of two years of full scope practice providing antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care.
  • Current Board certification as a CNM by date of hire
  • Current RN and APN licensures (Any State) (Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies.) Must have Colorado RN and APN licenses by date of hire.
  • Current Prescriptive Authority (RxN) Licensure (Any State). Must have Colorado RxN license by date of hire.
  • Current DEA license within 18 months of hire.
  • Valid NPI number by date of hire
  • Valid Colorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire
  • Completed CAQH by date of hire
  • Current BLS and NRP Certification

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in water birth and alternative labor/birth options
  • Current Colorado State RN & APN Licensures
  • Current, active, Colorado Prescriptive Authority & DEA
  • Previous student preceptor experience
  • Limited OB ultrasound skills
