Degree and Area of Specialization:
BA required in music or related area; masters preferred in arts administration/management or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- 1-2 years of arts administration or related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of music performance and/or education.
- Concert management or events coordination experience.
- Publicity and social media experience, including understanding of website maintenance (Wordpress, Squarespace).
- Design experience (Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator).
- Superior organizational skills and experience with all Microsoft Suite programs.
- Professional writing skills.
- Outreach/engagement experience preferred.
- Familiarity with UW-Madison business systems preferred.
Established in 1979, the Arts Outreach Program, previously operated out of the Arts Institute, brings the talents of faculty and student musicians to audiences throughout Wisconsin and beyond. Now housed under the Mead Witter School of Music, the Music Engagement and Outreach Program (MEO) continues to book and arrange 30-40 in and out-of-state events per year for the 3 faculty ensembles. With the support of a Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Grant, this position also oversees our signature AMPLIFY program through an ongoing partnership with the Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA). In its first year, AY 16-17, students from the MHSA Band, Orchestra, and Jazz ensembles worked side-by-side with the Pro Arte Quartet, Wingra Wind Quintet, and Wisconsin Brass Quintet both at MHSA and on campus at UW-Madison. AMPLIFY will continue to enrich, expand, and amplify the musical successes at Milwaukee High School of the Arts next season. The MEO position will aid in this expansion and seek new outreach opportunities. Through income generation and grant revenues, the expectation is that this position will become self-supporting in the next year.
The mission of MEO includes: 1. Embodying the Wisconsin Idea by providing cultural services to Wisconsin through public performances and other music experiences; 2. Creating and fostering on-going relationships with targeted educational sites in Milwaukee and other Wisconsin cities; 3. Offering educational services through music clinics, educational performances and lecture demonstrations; 4. Drawing attention to the Mead Witter School of Music educational programs and opportunities; 5. Fostering positive university relations with UW alumni and state citizens.
This position presumes working regular hours and works closely with the School's publicity office, concert, band and orchestra managers, and other arts presenters locally and statewide. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Mead Witter School of Music
Additional Information: The annual (12-month) salary will be prorated based on appointment percentage.
