Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Experiential Learning, the Manager, Experiential Services will be responsible for working closely with learners, academic and career coaches, program administrators, instructors and employers, and Employer Relationship Managers (ERM) involved in experiential learning activities throughout Northeastern University's Professional Advancement Network (PAN). Responsibilities include assisting the ERMs, directors, recruiters, student services professionals, and others in supporting PAN experiential learning services to serve and support learners, partnerships, employers and sponsors through co-ops, internships, job shadows, employer panels, project-based work and other experiential learning models. This manager collaborates with other stakeholders to manage, facilitate, recruit and support learners participating in experiential learning opportunities. The core mission of PAN's experiential learning serviced is to provide adults, international learners and domestic working professionals with opportunities to engage in academically relevant, work experiences curricularly and co-curricularly during their course of study in order to reinforce academic theory and help learners build professional experience through practical, real-world application.

Moreover, this manager supports the strategic plan, mission, vision, and goals and for student experiences and outcomes in experiential learning. He/she is responsible for the following:

  • Articulate and promote the unique potential of Northeastern University's PAN experiential learning opportunities for learners and ensure outstanding student service/experiences that distinguish NU's experiential learning in relation to other institutions.
  • Establish, develop, nurture and sustain student relationships that facilitate the creation and sustainability of exceptional, best-fit experiential learning and authentic work opportunities for learners.
    o Perform student advising for experiential learning, answering program inquiries, maintain an advising caseload; assist in placing, matching, and referring learners to academically relevant experiential learning opportunities, integrate and collaborate with career coaching and academic advising in the service of learners.
    o Demonstrate positive, collegial partnerships and working relationships with faculty and staff to ensure successful student outcomes and academically relevant and rigorous experiential learning opportunities for learners that meet the requirements of academic programs.
    o Develop and implement student orientations, services, and support programs, and attend admissions and alumni networking events and open houses to ensure their alignment with and competitiveness for distinctive and relevant experiential learning opportunities. Also support and promote opportunities to targeted student populations as needed.
    o Coordinate and lead events and activities that support recruitment, management and sustainability of a robust and growing pool of student participants and employer sponsorships to provide high quality, relevant experiential learning opportunities.
    o Work with faculty and academic programs, to coach and mentor participating learners in support of academically relevant authentic experiential learning opportunities and ensure student persistence in these opportunities.
    o Work with Office of Global Service (OGS) and Office of General Counsel (OGC) to ensure adherence to and compliance with all rules, standards and guidelines governing international learner participation in experiential learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other managers, academic programs, employers, and colleagues to help operationalize experiential learning offerings.
    o Prepare and support learners in obtaining, securing, and executing worthwhile experiential learning opportunities with relevant employers and sponsors.
    o Prepare learners for XN, co-op and internship by facilitating courseware, holding workshops, and grading assessments and assignments related experiential preparatory courseware.
    o Create, schedule, and manage all zero and for-credit COP courses for coop, internship and experiential prep courses.
    o Manage and/or complete work authorization paperwork process for learners to be eligible for coop and internships and oversee process for logging all student co-op and internship placements in the NEXUS database including creating (if applicable): new employer account, new contact, and the new job entry; manage the approval of student resumes on NEXUS; give feedback to those who need to edit their resume and resubmit.
    o Manage the facilitation of the Co-op email inbox and oversee responses to student inquiries.
    o Conduct post internship/co-op reflection seminars and review evaluations to ensure quality and process improvement.
    o Assess the student need gap areas and work closely with academic advising/career coaching to bridge those gaps and find a more streamlined and efficient advising process
    o Document student interactions and student inquiries.
  • Provide strategic learning, data collection and reporting on experiential learning engagements and interactions regularly to ensure sustainability, growth, quality, performance, and continuous improvement.
    o Track, manage, facilitate and report student interactions with experiential programs using on-line database to record and report in accordance with relevant policies.
    o Maintain current knowledge of policies and practices related to student participation in experiential coops, interns, projects and initiatives, especially as related to international learners and graduate and professional studies learners.
    o Design and deploy surveys to collect, analyze and aggregate performance data on learners and sponsors participating in experiential learning.
    o Develop student management/tracking/measuring resources as needed to meet business needs.
  • Work with director(s), ERMs, and others to set strategy for meeting experiential needs of learners, post job opportunities in program database, participate in matching process, and to support student referrals to open positions.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred along with 3-4 years of professional work experience working with learners and academic programs in some capacity, managing, recruiting, advising, or the equivalent. Experience working with domestic and international learners, various institutional partners and clients (i.e. employers, disciplines, learners, faculty and administration) is helpful. Ability to work effectively with people of varying cultures and diversity a plus. Experience teaching, advising in career development or experiential learning a plus. Knowledge of desktop tools, web-based applications, and database programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google applications, Salesforce, and database programs and data management and analysis. Moreover, this role requires a goal oriented individual who possesses excellent presentation skills, effective partnership building, is well organized, professional and demonstrates a high level of customer service. This position is based in Boston, MA, but may require some travel to graduate campuses to support learners and cultivate co-ops and internships.
