The Senior Associate Director of Survey Research and Assessment plays a critical role within UDS by providing expertise in survey research, assessment support, and data analysis and reporting. The Senior Associate Director is also expected to provide support and guidance to the Northeastern University community regarding survey research methodology and tools.

The Senior Associate Director manages all aspects of survey research within the office. He or she coordinates the University's participation in national surveys, and manages the survey schedule of both national and in-house surveys. Using data from these surveys, the Senior Associate Director will prepare data briefs, summaries, presentations, and reports appropriate for distribution to campus constituencies in support of planning, evaluation and decision-making across the University. The Senior Associate Director will provide guidance for survey research to academic and administrative units within the University, and will work to schedule the surveys throughout the year to minimize survey fatigue and maximize the quality of the resulting data. Further, he or she will continue to expand the scope of our survey portfolio so that the University has robust data for desired populations and university initiatives. Responsibilities may include: designing questionnaires; initiating, conducting and reporting on survey projects; administering surveys; meeting with clients to outline parameters of research; preparing reports and communicating results.


• Master’s degree in a social science, mathematics, statistics or similar field
• 5-10 years of related experience in survey research
• Prior experience in an institutional research office is preferred
• Experience in higher education and knowledge of trends and issues facing higher education (such as accreditation) is preferred
• Strong knowledge of research methods, survey design, sampling, survey methodology, and statistical analysis
• Proficiency with various software packages including MS Office applications, web-based survey software tools (Qualtrics preferred), SPSS, and database querying tools is required
• Excellent analytical skills, the ability to work independently with good judgment, strong organizational skills, and the agility to manage multiple and changing priorities to meet deadlines
• Qualitative analysis skills (focus groups, text analysis)
• Effectively present results, including communicating technical information in oral, written, and graphical form to individuals with technical and non-technical backgrounds
• Strong interpersonal and team skills and the capability to supervise junior institutional research staff members and student employees
• Attention to detail is critical as is the ability and willingness to reevaluate and improve analytical, reporting, and survey activities
