Under the direction of the Assistant Dean, the Associate Director will support the Assistant Dean in all areas relating to undergraduate academic student services in the Bouve College of Health Sciences, including the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of advising programs; advising a caseload of students; day-to-day administration; long-term planning; hiring and training of staff; directly supervising new hires; preparation of academic policy guidelines; distribution of materials to students and advisors; development of technical advising-related support systems, databases and web systems; and service on College and University committees.
Special problems and unique challenges include the following:
Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience in a higher educational setting preferably in student recruitment, academic advising and/or event planning; strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and communication skills; ability to both take initiative and to work as a member of a team; ability to represent the College in a variety of settings with both internal and external constituencies; management and supervisory experience.
Ability to work with students to support and advise students from first year through graduation. Individual must work well under pressure and have excellent time-management skills, plus demonstrated advising/counseling ability. Individual must demonstrate the ability to set goals, take initiative, follow through, and organize effectively. Individual must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work with precision. The ability to relate to people of varied academic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is required.
Ability to import data from a variety of information systems, manipulate text and relate data for reporting. Ability to pull in data from external sources into Access, and take fields that do not match for a large number of records and configure as needed. Ability to design /build tables, forms and reports. Technical/computer experience required, particularly with Access databases.
Individual must be able to work as an integral member of a team, demonstrate leadership qualities and have the skills and knowledge to manage a project. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships are essential to the position. Person must be able to develop, implement and promote innovative student services and supportive learning resources and programs.

Within Bouvé, the Behrakis Health Sciences Center houses a state of the art human performance and exercise laboratory with teaching and research space, including fully equipped exercise stress testing stations, metabolic carts, Lunar DEXA machine, an underwater weighing tank, Cybex and Keiser strength and power equipment, wet lab facilities for blood processing and muscle biopsies. The Arnold S. Goldstein Simulation Laboratories Suite opened in September 2013 and provides a state-of-the-art simulation center for interprofessional education.
