Academic Advisor 1 - College of Science

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Do you enjoy helping people succeed? The College of Science at Utah Valley University is seeking an academic advisor to help assist and guide students as they plan and pursue their college education. Duties will include participation in the delivery of academic advising services and programs that promote successful degree completion for all students. The successful applicant will be responsible for an advising caseload while meeting the academic advising needs of individuals or groups of students. They will use data and analytics to promote student success, and provide strategic outreach to enable degree completion.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in science plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling five years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of student development.
  • Knowledge of higher education student advisement retention and completion principles, techniques, programs and products.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply current best practices in student development theory.
  • Understanding of undergraduate education and undergraduate planning and implementation.
  • Skills in advising/counseling.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective analytical skills to collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate information.
  • Ability to assist students in developing effective academic plans in order to promote student retention and academic success.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish organizational objectives.
  • Proven ability to utilize technology in the academic advising process.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and think quickly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Service-oriented, diplomatic, and able to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Ability to set a professional example in terms of expertise, work ethic, and productive work habits.

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Pay Range: $31,554 - $42,072
