  Position Information  

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before six months and one day from initial appointment, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Under the lead direction of the Executive Assistant to the Vice President and supervision of the Director of Board and Executive Affairs, the incumbent provides various confidential administrative office support functions for the Vice President’s Office and will serve as one of the primary contacts for all visitors to the Vice President’s Office. The incumbent handles numerous confidential phone calls and correspondence with high-level donors, receives and processes substantial monetary gifts to SDSU, assists with presidential briefings.

  Compensation and Benefits  

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,000 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,115 - $5,060 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications 

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Experience supporting a high-level executive.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and detail skills.
  • PC skills including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • Skilled in securing travel arrangements and managing an executive’s calendar.
  • Front desk/reception experience.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Ability and availability to attend events or perform duties outside of normal work hours (may include weekends).
  • Ability to travel and attend off-campus appointments and events. 
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of progressively related administrative experience supporting a high-level executive.
  • Skilled in performance of basic prospect research.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience working with key volunteers.
  • Skilled in use of Adobe.
  • Ellucian Advance skills (database).
  • PI Profile skills.
  • Skilled in processing of University and SDSURF documents for travel, mileage, reimbursements, payables, and procurement.
