Summary of Job Duties

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for safely and efficiently directing the day to day clinical laboratory operations to include, but not limited to, personnel supervision and staffing, oversight of specimen collection, monitoring of interfaces with practice management system(s) and reference laboratories, maintains instruments/equipment, and oversees quality controls for all aspects of laboratory management. This position assures compliance with all state and federal regulations as well as all University and PWHC policies and procedures.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Master's degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology or a related field
  • Certification as a Registered Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist
  • At least five years of experience in a clinical laboratory including one year of prior clinical laboratory supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of principles and theories of medical technology, chemistry, microbiology, and related health sciences
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of medical technology, chemical laboratory management, and administrative procedures
  • Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates
  • Ability to organize, direct, and evaluate laboratory testing and production
  • Ability to develop laboratory policies and procedures and establish test standards
  • Ability to maintain laboratory equipment
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain records
