The Florida State University Libraries seeks a Service Desk Supervisor to manage staffing and day-to-day operations of the Scholars Commons service desk. Located on the lower level of Strozier Library, the Scholars Commons is focused on providing space and services to graduate students and faculty.

Responsibilities

This position oversees daily operations of the Scholars Commons service desk and supports the management of the Scholars Commons within the Research and Learning Services division of University Libraries.
Collaborate with the Director of Graduate and Faculty Services to provide vision and assist with staff development activities. Hire and supervise OPS and FWS student employees, which includes approving timesheets, approving leave, coordinating training, guiding projects, and evaluating performance. Coordinate with librarians and staff to determine and distribute work assignments to OPS and FWS employees.
Coordinate and manage the Scholars Commons service desk, including scheduling. Provide training and guidance to staff, assistance to patrons, and troubleshooting for online library systems, print collections, and equipment & technology. Advise and collaborate with the Director of Graduate and Faculty Services to create and update policies and procedures for circulating materials and use of library spaces.
Compile budget reports and projections for staffing and managing the Scholars Commons service desk. Represent the Scholars Commons on the library-wide Circulation group. Staff physical and virtual service points in the Scholars Commons by providing customer service and reference support to patrons and enforcing library policies and procedures. Includes some evening and weekend shifts.
Participates in Scholars Commons and/or Library promotional activities in order to support the Library. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.
Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
Knowledge of the policies and practices of library services.
Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment.
Ability to train and supervise employees.
Experience prioritizing, organizing and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Ability to utilize problem solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Experience in a customer service setting.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions, including Microsoft Office.

Preferred

Ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Anticipated Salary Range

Mid- high $20,000’s commensurate with education and experience.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
