Bachelor’s degree required.
Demonstrated skill in using computer software: MS WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT. (MUST INDICATE SPECIFIC SOFTWARE IN WHICH YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE ON THE APPLICATION OR RESUME.)
Demonstrated interpersonal skills in diverse work situations, working as a team member and making independent decisions as needed.
Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize the work of others as well as his or her own.
Ability to work with difficult situations, time pressures and multitude of interruptions.
Demonstrated ability to perform math sufficient to calculate GPAs, percentages, and basic statistics for summarizing and interpreting data.
Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and explain complex policies and procedures clearly and precisely.
Demonstrated ability for coherent and precise writing.
Demonstrated ability for attention to detail.
Ability to work hours outside of the Monday through Friday 8-5 (evenings and weekends.)
Academic advising experience.
Knowledge of Texas State’s academic policies and procedures.
Responsible for providing quality undergraduate advising to majors and pre-majors and to serve as an advisor and resource to prospective students and their parents.
Advise students on topics related to academic majors and provide guidance & assistance with academic progress.
Assess advising of students for continuous improvement of advising services.
Collect data and prepare reports as needed.
Coordinate, plan, and prepare for advising sessions with individuals or small groups.
Refer and or inform students of university resources.
Maintain confidential student files.
Assist in the preparation of detailed electronic degree audits.
Assist in processing applications & clearing candidates for graduation.
Assist with the review and dissemination of undergraduate catalog/curriculum information.
Disseminate policy and procedure information to students, departments and other university units.
Participate in University recruitment and retention efforts by participating in Bobcat Days, New Student Orientation, community college outreach and any other University function related to this effort.
Perform other duties as assigned.
