Apprentice Coordinator/Student Support Specialist (Grant FT)

General Summary:
50% of time to provide support to Perkins union apprentice students to help them improve grade point averages, term-to-term retention and graduation rates. Other 50% of time is to support the union apprenticeship programs by assisting students with paperwork for registration and verifying that students meet enrollment requirements. Support will also be given to union faculty in completion of learning outcomes assessment and comprehensive program review. Assist with course schedule building and supply schedule to Academic Affairs Office for input into Colleague.

Work location and additional information:
This position will remain open until filled. Job Specifications:
Bachelor's degree; a minimum of two years direct experience with students in a post-secondary education institution. Familiarity with assessment and program review. Experience with trades apprenticeships preferred. Applicant must possess strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and computer skills. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively, attention to detail and the ability to follow through. A valid Pennsylvania driver's license is required.

Job Duties:
Perkins Funded Responsibility
1. Provide support to students enrolled in union apprentice programs to achieve the current goals of the Perkins Grant.
2. Interact with union apprentice students to boost grade point averages via classroom workshops, facilitated studies and/or one-on-one academic sessions with students.
3. Work with union apprentice students to improve term-to-term retention rates, mid-term grade evaluations and by assisting students with college policies and procedures.
4. Inform union apprentice students of Perkins Grant services through classroom presentations, mailings and other means of communications.
5. Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of interactions with union apprentice student via the various databases utilized by the Perkins Grant.
6. Initiate and maintain contact with faculty regarding union apprentice student progress and to coordinate academic services.
7. Act as a liaison with Career Services, Counseling, Financial Aid, Supportive Services, Advisement and the Learning Center for union apprentice students.
8. Participate in appropriate professional development activities as well as college meetings and committees.
9. Ability to travel to campuses, college centers and off campus locations may be necessary.
10. Perform other duties and other Perkins related duties as required or assigned.

College Funded Responsibility
1. Attend AIC meetings on a quarterly basis at different union locations.
2. Regular visits to the Carpenter's Training Center for Orientations for new groups and for 3rd year apprentice groups.
3. Receive new apprentice contracts from the union, create student folders, file contracts and contact new students for registering.
4. Assist in the process of registering for classes by going over classes, schedules, filling out registration forms, and turning them over to Student Accounts for processing.
5. Give directions to apprentices on submitting transcripts and sending them transfer of credit forms and registration's contact information for sending in official transcripts.
6. Set apprentices up with placement testing and preparation for taking the test.
7. Answer all phone inquiries about apprenticeships.
8. Meet with potential apprentice applicants.
9. Send letters to the unions including transcripts and their contracts and verify they have met all qualifications for the degree so that they can get reimbursed for their deposit.
10. Consult with union faculty to identify learning outcomes and complete program assessment plans (Appendix E) and reports (Appendix I) prior to college deadlines.
11. Work with union faculty to complete comprehensive program reviews during the assigned years.
12. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
