Job Description Summary:

George Washington Health Sciences is a vibrant unit within the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. As the training ground for the nation's next experts in health care quality, pharmacogenomics, clinical management and leadership, and more, we are at the forefront of a rapidly changing health care landscape. The Health Sciences department is currently seeking a Communications Assistant to support the Senior Associate Dean of Health Sciences.
Responsibilities Include:
Designs and implements an external communication plan for Health Sciences programs
Formulates publication-ready content highlighting Health Sciences programs and faculty for dissemination via internal and external communication platforms
Coordinates content development and dissemination with Communications, Alumni Support and Development teams in the School of Medicine & Health Sciences
Aligns external communications and marketing materials with strategic priorities for Health Sciences, including student and faculty recruitment, alumni engagement and development, and branding marquee programs
Provides expert guidance to program managers and directors in the area of communications and marketing, including supervision for outreach activities and mentoring for program staff
Leads an editorial support service within Health Sciences to support student and faculty effort in scholarly writing through editing, fact-checking and critical appraisal of written works
Serves as a liaison to external partners to Health Sciences in the area of publishing, marketing, and branding
Performs regular content development, editing, readership study, and enrichment for digital content for Health Sciences programs
Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 7 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Expertise in the areas of communications and external relations preferred
Ability to manage and execute highly complex or specialized projects or processes
Works well independently
Expertise and proficiency in writing, clinical fact-checking, and substantive editing
