Summary



The Instructional Copy Editor reports to the Executive Director, Center for Learning Design, Delivery and Technology and is a key part of the quality assurance process in the Center for Learning Design, Delivery, and Technology. S/he will review all course content and correct for errors in grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling and will suggest re-writes to faculty program directors to improve readability and student comprehension. S/he will ensure that the presentation of all course content aligns with APA stylistic conventions, ADA guidelines, Quality Matters™ standards, and will be responsible for the final quality assurance check and sign-off of courses before premiere projects and future course development.

This is a full time position and based in Albany, NY



Responsibilities


  • Work with academic units and Instructional Designers to create high-level design of programs and courses to meet the objectives of the college.
  • Consult with subject matter experts (upon faculty program director request) during content development to ensure ideas are presented with clarity, in an engaging style, and within alignment of course objectives and assessments.
  • Review/copyedit all new courses, major and minor revisions in preparation for premiere.
  • Ensure consistency and maintain quality standards in development of online courses and programs.
  • Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in courses.
  • Propose alternative wording to the "subject matter expert/ faculty program director" if meaning is unclear.
  • Ensure that all content (including images) follows APA stylistic conventions for citation and referencing.
  • Evaluate and ensure the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of each course within the context of Quality Matters™ and College policies.
  • Respond to "faculty program director" requests for amendments and edits to courses after premiere run.
  • Undertake the final "quality assurance" check of course content before it is sent to the unit for final review.



Qualifications


  • Must have a minimum of a Master's degree in English, Education or a closely related subject area.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent levels of concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Tact and diplomacy for working with faculty "subject matter experts and program directors".
  • A methodical and well-organized approach to work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate with all levels of the college community and the ability to work across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with learning management systems, computer platforms, and web authoring software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and meet implementation deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and manage within a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and oversee projects to completion with minimal supervision.
