As a member of the Penn GSE Development and Alumni Relations team, the Associate Director of Development is a frontline major gift officer responsible for successfully managing a portfolio of qualified potential donors who are capable of making gifts to Penn GSE of at least $100,000.

Reporting to the Vice Dean for Development and Alumni Relations, the Associate Director will manage a portfolio of 150-200 potential donors, develop long-term fundraising strategies for each assigned donor or those identified in the course of their work and in accordance with University fundraising priorities. The Associate Director will effectively represent Penn GSE's mission and fundraising priorities to a variety of constituencies and stakeholders and, as appropriate, engage senior administrators, faculty, board members and volunteers in the process of cultivating and soliciting potential donors to the School.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong ability to identify and cultivate major gift prospects and move them toward solicitation. This position will take the lead in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift level individuals and will be particularly skilled at engaging major prospects in meaningful ways that further productive philanthropic relationships S/he will recommend, facilitate, and attend development and other cultivation and engagement activities/events for Penn GSE, ensuring execution at the highest level.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and minimum of three to five years of professional higher education development-related experience or related work experience. A proven track record of successful major gift fundraising. Familiarity with Penn's and Penn GSE's mission is preferred. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to develop and foster relationships with people at all levels of an organization, and to collaborate and influence at a high level. Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in teams, with high personal standards representative of Penn GSE's commitment to excellence. Strong strategic planning and project management skills necessary to set and monitor progress against goals, to develop plans and timelines, and to measure success toward goals. Discretion, good judgment, and commitment to keep confidential all data related to Penn GSE and its alumni and donors. Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to produce high-quality and compelling work product under tight deadlines. Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment. Sense of humor is a plus. This position will require the willingness and ability to frequently travel domestically; and to be able to work some weekends and evenings. Valid driver's license required and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
