Position Summary


The OB data nurse provides quality oversight to perinatal projects within the Regional Perinatal center and their affiliated hospitals. The OB data nurse collects and submits data on perinatal core measures, NYS perinatal database system, New York Partnership for Patients Perinatal Process and outcomes measures and ACOG Safe Motherhood Initiative indicators.


Duties of a Regional Perinatal Center OB Data Nurse may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate the consistency and quality of the data entered into the Core Module of the SPDS, Computer Information System (CIS) and the Antepartum data base/
  • Responsible for assuring timely collection and maintenance of complete and accurate data for all the above systems.
  • Cross cover for NICU RPC data nurses who are responsible for the NICU module of the SPDS.
  • Cross-cover the birth certificate department.
  • Participates in perinatal research; assists attending, fellows, midwives and residents.
  • Functions as a liaison to the nursing staff issues related to research projects undertaken by OB faculty.
  • Participates in outreach quality improvement/education initiatives.
  • Generates hospital-specific reports from the data system that show Internal and affiliate hospital performance information for comparison purposes.
  • Responsible for accurate data collection and timely submission for all OB participating hospital and state initiatives.


Qualifications


Required Qualifications: Licensed or eligible for licensure in NYS as a Registered Nurse. Holds a Bachelor's degree in nursing. Minimum three years experience in OB/Perinatal.

The incumbent needs to have data abstraction and interpretation experience with strong communication and computer skill. The OB data nurse needs to be able to accurately assess the data and define data.


Preferred Qualifications: Experienced in fetal monitoring, patient/staff education expertise, data abstraction/ submission and interpretation, specialty certification, NRP certified, poster presentation. L&D experience
