Department Overview
In 2015, the Texas Legislature provided initial funding to UNTHSC to establish the Institute for Patient Safety (IPS). Founding Member Institutions included UNTHSC, Texas Christian University, John Peter Smith Health System, and Cook Children's Hospital. The Institute is creating a state-wide approach to decrease harm to patients from medical care by developing collaborative partnerships of patients and families, academic institutions, healthcare systems and community organizations. The goals of the IPS are to improve patient safety and reduce preventable patient harm through education, research, safety improvement, and informing and assisting leaders to adopt patient safety policies.

The Senior Fellow - Physician, UNTHSC Institute for Patient Safety (IPS), is a high level position within the IPS for individuals with substantial expertise and experience in their field related to patient safety. The Senior Fellow is expected to hold a faculty appointment within one or more other Schools of UNTHSC or affiliated Membership Institutions. The Senior Fellow serves as an expert topical thought leader and participates in strategic planning for the IPS. The Senior Fellow develops, leads, and provides educational, research, and consulting services consistent with the IPS strategy and their area of expertise. The Senior Fellow represents UNTHSC or affiliated Membership Institutions and the IPS both internally and externally.

Position Details
The Institute for Patient Safety Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Senior Fellow to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

Representative Tasks:
* Collaborate and participate with IPS leadership to develop and implement a dynamic and evolving strategic plan.
* Serve as a topical expert and thought leader for the IPS within their discipline.
* Strategically develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external individuals and organizations to enhance the mission of the IPS.
* Plan, develop, and deliver, educational programs related to quality and patient safety.
* Plan, develop, conduct and publish research related to quality and patient safety.
* Actively participate in the development of extramural funding opportunities for the IPS. Serve as the principle investigator / educator for extramural funding opportunities as appropriate.
* Plan, develop and deliver consulting services sponsored by the IPS. Lead assigned projects.
* Enhance personal professional growth and development by keeping abreast of the latest trends and information in their discipline and the fields of patient safety, health care quality and performance improvement.
* Represent the organization at professional conferences and participate on internal and external committees to enhance the reputation of UNTHSC and IPS.
* As appropriate, directly supervise IPS associates and students.
* Prepare and deliver requested reports regarding IPS activities.
* Complete all reimbursements, requisitions and invoices in a compliant and timely fashion.
* Carry out other duties as assigned by the IPS Executive Director or UNTHSC senior leadership.

Supervision:
*Reports to - The Institute for Patient Safety Executive Director
*Supervises - The Institute for Patient Safety Consultation Personnel and Students, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

* MD/DO degree required.
* Five (5) years of clinical experience required.
* Four (4) years of experience leading patient safety and quality within a health system or equivalent environment.
