About the Department:

The Department of Geosciences offers degrees in earth science, geography and geology. Courses focus on oil and gas exploration, environmental problems, historic preservation, planetary science and the physical, chemical and biological aspects of earth. Field camps and research programs hone skills and prepare students for rewarding careers in all aspects of geosciences.

Job Type Staff

Summary of Job Duties

The Post-Doctoral Fellow will perform field work in river deltas in Louisiana and in other locations and will develop physical models of channel processes. This position will also travel to national and international locations to study river deltas. This position will perform other duties as assigned.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Ph.D. in earth sciences, physics, or engineering that must be conferred by the start of employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in physical sedimentology and/or river delta morphodynamics and hydrology


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of modeling using python or Matlab
  • Knowledge and expertise in statistics, physical sedimentology, and laboratory experiments
  • Knowledge of data collection in field settings
  • Ability to construct numerical models of physical processes and test the model against data
