Network Engineer IPosition Summary
The Network Engineer I is responsible for activities related to the design, implementation, support, and maintenance of network information systems supporting the activities of MSU. Responsible for the documentation, communication of system and related components, and coordination within their team; designs and builds out of new network deployments and service delivery; ability to complete network configuration moves/adds/changes with little to no supervision; demonstrates the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a ticket based work environment; provides high quality customer service and support.Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; working knowledge of logical and physical networks and related system technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Desired Qualifications
Strong troubleshooting skills to isolate network faults utilizing packets sniffers, enterprise network analysis tools and other available information; ability to design solutions and resolve problems with layers 1-7 of the network stack; in-depth understanding of networking protocols, routing protocols, optical networking and security technologies; technical network certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, etc.
