Job Summary/Basic Function:
General Description:
The Assistant Director of Technical Support will manage the learning technologies, troubleshoot user questions, schedule product updates and manage third party product integration. Coordinate and assign Quality Matters (QM) reviews to reviewers as well as perform QM reviews. Track statistics for reporting purposes. Provide professional development by creating training materials, making presentations to faculty and staff, using evaluations to enhance redelivery, and scheduling webinars. Research education technology trends. Coordinate and implement new technologies. Develop and maintain delivery of quality educational courses and programs. Supervise staff and student workers.

Essential Job Functions include:
  • Oversee learning technologies such as Blackboard, Kaltura, ProctorU, Smarthinking, Collaborate, etc.
  • Coordinate, implement and maintain support resources and communities for online and off-campus students.
  • Assist in researching emerging best practices to assure quality for online students and faculty.
  • Research, coordinate and implement teaching-and-learning-with-technology workshops for faculty.
  • Manage QM course review process.
  • Assess distance education students' perceptions of course and program quality, and use results to design training workshops for faculty as well as other staff who provide services to distance learners.
  • Oversee support services to online and off-campus students. Ensure that fully online students are properly connected with support services (library, financial aid, Blackboard help desk, writing center, bookstore, DE support, ADA, and academic department).
  • Work on distance learning special projects.
  • Supervise staff and student workers.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Job Requirements include:
    Demonstrated experience working with distance learners, adult learners, transfer and military students preferred. Experience in strategic planning, needs analysis/assessments, online course development and instruction is also preferred. Candidate should have exceptional external and internal customer service instincts; commitment to team and accountability for the whole; data-informed decision making; follow-through and attention to detail; ability to manage a work week that may exceed 40 hours during peak times; excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Education/License: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred with a study in education, administration, leadership or a related field

    Experience Required: Three or more years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Three or more years’ experience in managing an LMS (learning management system), distance education courses or programs and/or online learning preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Work requires managing and monitoring work performance by directing a department including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.

    Work requires contacts with faculty, staff and students regarding implementation and management of learning technologies.

    This job normally performs the duty assignments within broad parameters defined by general organizational requirements and accepted practices. End results determine effectiveness of job performance.

    This job requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems which affect the design and implementation of major programs and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively.


    Physical Requirements: Sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.
