William Paterson University seeks candidates for the position of Resident Director. The Resident Director is a full-time, twelve-month, live-in professional position in the Department of Residence Life. Based on a commitment to student development theory, the Resident Director supervises a staff of 6-12 undergraduate Resident Assistants and 8-12 Desk Assistants, and administers the physical and personal aspects of a residence hall area housing approximately 250-500 students. The Resident Director serves on various student life committees and coordinates a comprehensive educational programming effort in his/her hall area. S/he reports to and works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Residence Life in the execution of assigned responsibilities. The Resident Director is expected to be available three to four evenings a week.
A Master's degree from an accredited college or university is required. A Master’s in Student Personnel/Counseling or related field is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will also possess one (1) year of experience above the undergraduate level in residence hall administration in a college or university setting, supervisory skills, knowledge of facilities management and experience as a student conduct hearing officer. A valid Driver’s License is required for work related travel. Additional requirements include strong interpersonal, oral/written communication and organizational skills.
