The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs is seeking a Director of Faculty Development to provide leadership in the strategic planning and implementation of professional development programming for faculty. Programming will include research and innovation in teaching effectiveness, curricular design, student engagement and other best practices in the delivery of in-person and online courses within the degree and non-credit portfolios. S/he will serve as a faculty peer and utilize NYUSPS resources to support a mentoring community among new and experienced faculty across a variety of academic disciplines.
This is a 12-month administrative appointment. The candidate will be expected to teach one class per year. S/he will hold an honorary faculty appointment. The rank of the faculty rank will depend on experience and qualifications. The position will begin as soon as possible.
The Director will report to the Assistant Dean for the Center of Academic Excellence and Support (CAES). CAES is a faculty-centered service group dedicated to supporting the improvement of teaching practice and the use of purposeful educational technology to advance student learning in traditional and online programs and courses. The department currently supports all academic programs within SPS, which includes 2,100 faculty members and 3,100 unique courses per year with approximately 4,300 credit students and 20,000 noncredit students.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in postsecondary instruction, student engagement, innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies, assessment methods, and learning that can be enhanced through educational technology. The candidate should be able to speak to and show evidence of reflective pedagogical insight, deep awareness of teaching and learning challenges, and a commitment to diversity and equity in higher education. Prior work experience should provide evidence of strategic planning and supervision of staff.
- Master’s Degree required; Ph.D. preferred
- Minimum of seven years’ as a full-time faculty member teaching within higher education
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness within the in-person and online classroom
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of research on pedagogy
- Minimum of three years’ experience designing and delivering faculty development programing
- Experience with assessment, accreditation, and compliance
- Experience managing staff, efficient budgeting and scheduling processes
- Research experience preferred
