Posting Date: 05-10-2016

Posting Summary:
The Department of Medical Education at the University of Virginia seeks physicians for its Clinical Performance Development (CPD) Phase 1 program to serve as mentors starting in August 2016 for four hours one day per week or as agreed upon. The CPD program is an 18-month course whose purpose is to teach pre-clerkship students clinical reasoning using case-based discussions as well as skills, such as history-taking, physical examination and procedures. Longitudinal mentoring for CPD Phases 2 & 3 will continue approximately quarterly for the physician mentor for an additional 28 months.

To be considered for the Physician Mentor, candidates must have a MD and be board-certified and/or board-eligible, commit to teaching and mentoring students through CPD Phases 1-3 and commit to the four hour weekly requirement of Clinical Performance Development Phase 1 (initial 18 months of the course) for small group activities, or as agreed upon with the Course Director. Physician Mentors must meet with small groups to continue discussions regarding clinical skill development as they progress through CPD Phases 2 & 3 (for both group and individual meetings as notified) and be able to identify and collaborate with a non-physician co-mentor.
