Cordant Health Solutions is a multi-site, industry-leading laboratory that offers a consolidated approach to toxicology by providing information through blood, urine, oral fluid, and hair analysis. We combine connectivity solutions and office protocols that allow our clients to have access to the right test, at the right time, for the right information. We have laboratories in Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented Certifying Scientist to join our laboratory team in Huntington, NY. The selected candidate will ensure the legal defensibility of scientific data generated in a technical, high volume, laboratory operation. Duties include but are not limited to: data certification, assay integrity, expert witness, Key Summary reports, LC/MS/MS and GC/MS operation, problem solving, enforcement of and compliance to policies and procedures, process optimization, communication and reporting, record keeping and other laboratory operations in a forensic chain of custody environment.

Essential Functions:
  • Certify and approve confirmation testing results for reporting
  • Maintain assay integrity and performance to ensure reproducibility and legal defensibility of all results
  • Provide expert witness
  • Review Key Summary reports
  • Promptly report concerns to all appropriate laboratory leadership and/or staff for effective feedback loop, quality improvement and training
  • Operate LC/MS/MS and GC/FID instruments for analysis: Injection scheduling, data processing, data review, advanced troubleshooting, advanced maintenance, instrument setup and validation
  • Review and approve QC validation tests to include: pool tests, subpool tests, internal standard tests, reagent tests
  • Contribute to, review and approve of method development and method validation
  • Assist with new technology and implementation of such
  • Collaborate with co-workers, managers and other supervisors to solve work-related problems within or between departments; answering and resolving questions/issues daily
  • Follow work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals, respond to fluctuating workloads, and improve quality and productivity of laboratory operations
  • Participate in employee training for equipment, software and other laboratory operations
  • Read and comply with: SOPs, regulations, best practices, guidelines, standards, policies and procedures
  • Enforce compliance of all policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and best practices for: CLIA, safety, environmental, laboratory, hazardous materials, equipment, accident reporting and security
  • Personal accountability for attendance, productivity, training, and incidents
  • Participate in employee performance appraisals
  • Ensure that all work is complete, accurate and meets our high quality standards
  • Care for and maintain lab work area, furnishings and equipment
  • Participate in safety training, follow laboratory guidelines including hazardous materials and waste handling, life safety, medical equipment safety, accident reporting and security
  • Perform all other assigned duties as instructed or required

Education and Experience:
  • B.S. degree or higher in Chemistry or related scientific field
  • One year experience certifying non-negative (positive) confirmation data
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems software
  • Knowledge of CLIA and CAP (highly desirable)
  • Medical terminology (highly desirable)

  • Understand and carry out instructions, reason and make judgments; perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately
  • Strong work ethic, detail oriented, punctual, organized, personable, reliable and dependable
  • High motivation level, personal integrity and accountability, strong communication skills

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
  • Light to moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.) -Heavier weights with assistance
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Repetitive motions and/or prolonged computer use
  • Working at a fast pace, subject to many interruptions and both physical and mental stress
  • Must wear provided appropriate personal protective equipment to include lab coat, gloves and face shield
  • Air-conditioned laboratory environment
  • Exposure to some odorous chemicals and specimens
