Position Description: The Department of Engineering Technology is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor level position in manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology. Applicants with expertise in all areas related to manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology are invited to apply. Particular consideration will be given to the candidates with research interest in advanced manufacturing areas.

The Department currently offers an Engineering Technology undergraduate degree with specializations in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, civil and environmental engineering technology. The Department also offers undergraduate degrees in Construction Science and Management, Concrete Industry Management, and Technology Management. At the graduate level, a Master of Science degree is offered with a major in Technology Management and specializations in manufacturing, construction, and industrial management. In the spring of 2003, the Department moved into a 250,000 square foot facility. The Department is housed in a College of Science and Engineering, which is home to 6 academic departments and the Ingram School of Engineering. The College offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Materials Science Engineering and Commercialization.

The individual selected for this position will be expected to be an excellent instructor and to teach several undergraduate and graduate courses from some of the following areas: CAD/CAM, Industrial Automation and Robotics, Quality Assurance, Statistical Process Control, Lean Manufacturing, Manufacturing Processes and Materials Selection, Machine Design & Dynamics, Applied Thermofluids, Micro & Nano Fabrication, Senior Design, and Product Design and Development. “Hands-on” laboratory instruction is a requirement for our program.

The selected candidate is also expected to secure external funding, and to conduct and publish research in areas appropriate for an emerging research institution. Areas of interest in advanced manufacturing include additive manufacturing, micro/nano-fabrication, renewable energy, sustainability, smart materials and composites, cyber-physical systems, smart manufacturing, industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), biomedical manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and novel manufacturing processes.

Engagement in service activities is also expected. The candidate will provide career counseling and academic advising to Engineering Technology majors. The candidate will participate with other faculty in student learning outcomes assessment and on-going program accreditation efforts.

Required Qualifications: A doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or another closely related engineering degree. An undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or another closely related degree. Candidates with an interdisciplinary background and demonstrated potential for research in advanced manufacturing will be given preference. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written English language skills. To be considered for the rank of associate professor, the candidate must meet the requirements for that rank at Texas State University.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional engineer licensure and/or certification(s), field experience in the manufacturing industry, prior teaching experience, and a record of teaching that emphasizes hands-on, experiential, laboratory learning. Research interests in any of the advanced manufacturing areas mentioned above (i.e., additive manufacturing, micro/nano-fabrication, renewable energy, sustainability, smart materials and composites, cyber-physical systems, smart manufacturing, industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), biomedical manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and novel manufacturing processes.).
