The Honors College at Texas State University is a multidisciplinary program offering curriculum for motivated undergraduate students in all majors. The unit serves over 2000 students and currently offers ~70 classes per year. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Dean are recruiting new faculty, evaluating courses, and overseeing the schedule production. The Associate Dean will also teach in the Honors College (approximately two classes per semester), serve as the primary editor of Honors publications, and assist in our summer new student orientation program. As an administrator, the Associate Dean will be a liaison to all other departments and schools on campus, as well as to the broader San Marcos community. Additionally, this year-round position will require the Associate Dean to assist in other Honors College initiatives, including undergraduate research support, awarding of scholarships, recruitment of fellowship candidates, and marketing and recruiting outreach.
Anticipated start date: Fall 2017 or later.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must hold a degree which qualifies them to teach at the university level. Candidates also must have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and have a commitment to student-centered learning. In addition, candidates must be able to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituencies and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with a strong emphasis on writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with curriculum development, undergraduate program development, undergraduate research development, and university leadership are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with honors programs or other similar interdisciplinary units at the undergraduate level.
