IHP Associate Director of Health Professions Education (FACULTY)

Summary of Major Responsibilities
The Associate Director (AD) of the Health Professions Education (HPEd) program is a part-time ranked faculty position that provides academic leadership related to student progression from admissions to graduation, and leads the research curriculum and scholarship within the Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MS-HPEd) degree program. The MS-HPEd program serves mid-career clinician/educators and admits cohorts of about 20 students each year for a two-year individualized part-time largely on-line program of study. The AD reports to the Director and assists the Director in providing program leadership in alignment with the educational philosophy of the program and the mission and strategic priorities of CIPSI and the Institute, and stands in for the Director to represent the program as required.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1) 30% Leads the academic operations related to student admission and progression

a. Coordinates admissions process

i. Participates in student recruitment activities

ii. Coordinates application review and decisions process

iii. Collaborates with the Director in providing new student orientation

b. Oversees academic advising and tracking of student progression

i. Coordinates and assists faculty with student advisement

ii. Projects course enrollments

iii. Oversees course waiver portfolio process

2) 20% Leads the research curriculum and scholarship

a. Periodically reviews and updates research curriculum – both general research methods and advanced courses

i. Coordinates course oversight to meet program competencies

ii. Suggests innovations and efficiencies

b. Assists the Director in projecting faculty needs and hiring of faculty

c. Fosters development of faculty, instructors, and research project mentors

d. Directly provides advising of research-concentrated students

3) 20% Teaches in area of expertise as assigned (i.e. Research Methods)

4) 20% Conducts own scholarly activities

5) 10% Handles other responsibilities as periodically assigned by Director

Supervisory Responsibility

No FTEs. This role will support 5-10 term lecturers, and 15-30 volunteer research mentors.

Fiscal/Budget Responsibility

Support Director in writing annual budget.



• Doctoral degree (PhD preferred)

• Experience as an educator and a researcher


• Previous academic leadership, online teaching, and interprofessional collaboration experiences

• Strong communication skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a strong record of teaching, scholarship and service

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required

a) Administrative Skills- Effective communication skills. Organizational skills to coordinate diverse personnel and program activities.

b) Technical Skills- Competencies in communications, administrative, and research environments.
