Be part of a dynamic leadership team within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. We seek an innovative, visionary individual to lead our highly ranked Department of Physical Therapy due to retirement of our current chair in December 2017. The MGH Institute is a graduate school in Boston that prepares leading health professionals in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Professions Education, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD). Located in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard, the MGH Institute is affiliated with Partners HealthCare System, which includes the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, as well as a physician's network, community health centers, and other healthcare entities. The PT Department Chair position presents an opportunity for a dedicated physical therapist educator to provide leadership, promote a prioritized agenda of scholarship and faculty development, contribute to growing interprofessional activities and lead curricular innovation. In 2016, the DPT program launched a modular and integrated curriculum built on a foundation of case-based, self-directed and collaborative learning that reimagines the teaching-learning interaction. The DPT program is accredited through 2024 and is ranked in the top 10 programs nationally.

The Chair is responsible for supporting the Institute's goals of preparing health professions leaders, advancing health care for our diverse communities, and contributing to a culture of inclusive excellence. A new onsite Interprofessional Clinical Center (IPCC) currently under development will provide further opportunities for interprofessional education and practice for our exceptionally talent pool of graduate students across all programs.

Responsibilities. The Chair of the PT Department is responsible for all aspects of academic leadership and administration within the department, including setting strategic direction, providing mentorship and faculty development, budgeting and fiscal management, curriculum development, oversight and evaluation, and development of new initiatives. The Chair also has responsibilities in teaching and scholarly activities.

Qualifications. The Chair must hold an advanced doctoral degree, be eligible for licensure in Massachusetts, and have experience as a physical therapy educator. Previous academic leadership, and experience with CAPTE accreditation are desirable. The applicant should have strong communication skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a record of teaching, scholarship and service. The position is a 12-month appointment, with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
