    We are currently seeking a Security Officer who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

    The Opportunity

    Your mission: We'll rely on you to enforce the college rules, parking and traffic regulations, and provide other security and safety related services as requested by the POL administration.

    A typical day: You may spend the morning patrolling HCC buildings and parking lots, making sure areas are free from safety hazards, and buildings are locked or unlocked as required. If you find illegaly parked cars, you'll issue citations, and if someone's car won't start you'll arrange for vehicle assistance. You may be asked by an instructor to come into a classroom and remove a disruptive student, or resolve a noise complaint in the hallway. A student, staff member or visitor may request a security escort to their car, particularly in the evening. If an emergency occurs on campus, you'll be a first responder and will aid the execution of the emergency plan as assigned.

    SUMMARY

    Responsible for enforcing the college rules, parking and traffic regulations, and providing other security and safety related services as requested by the police administration. The person selected will be a key member of the emergency response team and will partner with the police staff to address security needs for the district.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Patrol college property to include the parking areas and buildings.

    Ensure that areas are free from safety hazards, that buildings are locked or unlocked as required, and that the rules of the college and laws of the state are followed.

    Issue College parking citations for illegally parked vehicles or other violations as set out by the college regarding parking regulations.

    Complete incident reports of a non-criminal nature in the police department electronic records management system.

    Report all hazardous and dangerous conditions that may affect the safety and wellbeing of students, employees and visitors.

    Provide security escorts and information as needed for members of the campus community.

    Provide information and assistance to visitors at college facilities.

    Arrange assistance to members of the campus community i.e. vehicle assistance.

    Guard against theft of property and fully cooperate with police investigations regarding

    crime of any kind.

    Ensure that hallway noise does not disrupt teaching and remove problematic students from class upon request of an employee.

    Respond to emergency situations as a first responder to aid the execution of the emergency plan as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, physical requirements, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

    EDUCATION

    High School diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate is required. College is preferred.

    Possess a certificate of completion from an approved Texas Department of Public Safety, Private Security Bureau Level II training course. (A photocopy of the applicants certificate of completion must accompany the application or be presented for personnel file upon hire).

    Possess a valid Texas Driver's License (Photocopy of driver's license must accompany the application or be produced upon request by the department)

    EXPERIENCE

    Two (2) years previous military, security officer experience or experience in criminal justice careers, such as police officers, court clerks, bailiffs, corrections officers, criminalists, etc. is preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be able to lift and move 25 lbs. without assistance.

    Must be able to run 100 yards without stopping and be functional upon completion.

    Be alert and able to report observations in a clear and effective manner in person or via radio, telephone and email

    Must be able to remain calm during stressful situations, emergencies and disturbances and be a member of the emergency response organizations at the assigned location

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Employees in this position will be scheduled to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment. Employees will be expected to work holidays, nights and/or weekends to meet staffing and scheduling requirements.

    Have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population

    Knowledge of basic emergency procedures

    Must be able to competently use computer systems including the MS Office Suite and proprietary software applications and technology

    Will be assigned to work across the district with varying days off and shifts when needed

    This is a security sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a background check, physical examination, drug test and driving record check (fewer than 3 moving violations in the previous 36 months and no DUIs).
