This position functions as the principal technician for the Nutritional Sciences animal care laboratory and is responsible for the independent care of research animals. The employee oversees the investigation of animal health and behavior on a daily basis and will contact the RARC veterinarian and PI when there is a concern. The employee is responsible for scheduling animal care and maintenance activities ensuring completion and compliance, coordinating proper space for newly arriving animals, collecting animal population census, maintaining the inventory of feed, bedding, and other supplies as needed. Employee is responsible for reporting facility maintenance needs to the building manager.
Animals under the care of this team are laboratory mice, rats and gerbils. Depending on the particular research, care may be routinely provided for entirely by the team, or animals may be under joint care with the parties conducting the research.
M-F, half days (mornings and early afternoon)
