Occupational Summary
Coordinate, participate and assist in developing projects for disseminating news about Duke Cancer Institute's Prostate & Urologic Cancer Center and for publicizing the University, its programs, activities, faculty, students and staff.

Work Performed

Writing- Develop material, news briefings, announcements to including clinical- and science-based articles, and news tips for distribution to publicize the Prostate & Urologic Cancer Center, its programs, activities, faculty, students and staff. These may include written materials such as news stories, features and/or multimedia materials such as videos or online features, as directed.

Web Content Management- Write, create and edit web content for the center website.

Social Media- Post and tweet news of interest related to the center on social media networking platforms.

All other duties as assigned

Qualifications Required At This Level

Education/Training
Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline.

Experience
Work requires one year of directly related writing experience.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferences
Position supports the communications needs of the center.
Excellent written, oral and conversational communication skills to effectively work with diverse groups.
Ability to analyze, evaluate multiple solutions and solve complex problems.
Excellent time management skills needed to prioritize among many competing priorities.
Attention to detail needed to operate accurately and effectively.
Experience in Adobe software applications, such as PhotoShop and InDesign.
Preferred candidate will have three to five years work experience in journalism or related field.
