  • Lead and manage all business, technical, and education activities (e.g. application development, installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, routers, firewalls, workstations, and network equipment).
  • Exercise full management responsibility for a technical group, including training, developing, evaluating, and setting priorities. May manage managerial staff.
  • Ensure work completion within schedule, budgetary, and design constraints; make decisions about analysis, design, and testing; solve complex technical problems; provide alternative methods for achieving goals when necessary.
  • May assist higher level management in broader scope strategic planning for a large, complex, university-wide function or major initiative.
  • Create procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with university policy and federal and state regulations.
  • Develop and manage budgets for projects or work groups.
  • May oversee or assist in preparation and submission of documentation, such as proposals, progress reports, or other contractual requirements.
  • Monitor technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies for adoption and implementation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to leverage the university/school's investments in information technology.
  • Help Develop long range technology plans.
  • Identify applicable new technologies through research, collaboration with peers, and participation in standards organizations, industry groups, panels, etc.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Detailed understanding of relevant technical knowledge and problem resolution.
  • Strong customer relationship skills, consensus building skills, and ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff.
  • Experience with J2EE, Java, XML, XSLT, HTML, JSPs, Javascript, Servlets & APIs (REST,SOAP,XML)
  • Experience with Liferay, Oracle OSB/SOA/ API Gateway highly desired
  • Strong ability to work in a complex Application landscape which includes, APIs, custom applications and vendor applications
  • In-depth knowledge of distributed computing concepts
  • Good understanding of database modeling and concepts with ability to implement database transaction processing (e.g. rollbacks, 2 phase commits)
  • Strong knowledge of internet standards and protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, various authentication methods, SOAP, XMLRPC, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of version control, software configuration, and release management practices
  • Knowledge of all aspects of software development process, product life cycles, and quality assurance practices
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods
  • Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in both end-user functionalities, UI designs, and back-end technologies
  • Deep understanding of information technology approaches, applications, tools, and methodologies, as well as a broad background in a variety of technology platforms.
Certifications and Licenses:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone.
