JOB STATUS: Full-time exempt position.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Associate Dean of Students
Supervises: Part-time staff and Student Workers (Test proctors, note takers, readers, scribes)

Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students, the position of Ability Access Coordinator, Student Access and Support Services (SASS), provides critical services including logistical and administrative support within the Division of Student Life. This position plays a pivotal role in providing access and support while fostering the integration of students with disabilities into the Mills College community. SASS provides a wide range of legally and professional required services to students with accommodations. Over 35% of the Mills student community utilized these services ranging from note-taking and readers and adaptive technology support to testing coordination.

Essential Job Functions:

• Function as a resource expert in disability as it relates to a students education and access. Primary duties include but are not limited to: intake for new students and updating current files as needed for accommodations and supervising student requests and approvals
• Maintain a caseload of students. Conduct individual meetings to determine appropriate academic accommodations and auxiliary services based on provided medical documentation
• Build and maintain relationships with students with complex needs to determine eligibility, accommodations, and intervention techniques required. Continues support and conflict resolution between students and faculty to apply best practices
• Discuss accommodation needs with faculty and appropriate Mills staff to assist in problem-solving with students when accommodations issues arise
• Provide supplemental support services to ensure the academic success, retention, and graduation of students with disabilities
• Maintain, schedule and coordinate with students and faculty in order to set up exam accommodations while maintaining accurate and detailed exam logs in a fast paced, changing environment
• Oversee the Emotional Support Animal and Service Animal process and works closely with Housing and Dining Services to ensure students, their animals and the campus communities needs are meet.
• Supervise the test proctoring system including scheduling and delivering exams, supervising part-time test proctors and filling in as needed.
• Oversee the administration of the note taker/reader/scribe roles through the full hiring process including student worker payroll and training weekly as needed.
• Track and purchase of adaptive and assistive technology in collaboration with Associate Dean
• Provide training for the Mills Community on principles and theories to support the access of Mills students utilizing SASS services.
• Update forms and reports, analyze data and track trends for the office

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Track accommodation expenses and reconcile monthly budgets
• Attend and case manager student situations in the Mills CARE team and other appropriate meetings
• Demonstrate skills in problem identification, sound judgment, transparent decision making, critical thinking, and creative problem solving
• Experience training others on reading and interpreting medical documentation, determining ADA accommodations and adjustments, and disability law
• Support the mission and goals of the Division of Student Life including some evening or weekend work during peak times of the year

Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:

• Exceptional Customer service experience in a fast paced office environment
• Student centric practices; problem analysis and problem-solving
• Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
• Understanding of all of the components of auxiliary services including alternative formats and accessible technology
• Understanding and experience with institution grounded in a social justice mission orientated foundation

Education and Training:

• Bachelors degree AND 3 years of experience in a similar setting
• Experience working with disability services in education or applicable area
• Ability to update skills on a continual basis and complete appropriate training and certifications

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:

• Work primarily involves sitting for long hours and using office equipment.
• The incumbent may spend hours on the computer entering data which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
• Work often requires bending to adjust or work with office equipment.
• The incumbent will be located in a busy, open office area. Interruptions and meeting with a variety of people will be required on a regular basis.
• There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress and at times working with distressed students.

Additional Information:

Salary range is between $48,000 - $50,000 annual compensation.
