Detailed Description: The Department of History at the University of San Diego seeks a historian of Africa at the rank of Assistant Professor. Geographic specialization and period are open with preference for candidates with strong transnational and global interests. We seek an excellent teacher-scholar who can teach lower and upper-division courses in African history and pursue innovative research in field of specialization.
Job Requirements: Applicants should hold a doctorate by the time of the appointment, September 2018. Persons offered employment must successfully complete a pre-employment background check.

Additional Details: USD is an independent private institution that retains its Roman Catholic identity. The University has over 5,500 undergraduate and approximately 2,600 graduate students. The beautiful 180-acre hilltop campus is located in coastal San Diego.

The standard teaching load is 3/3, although faculty automatically receive one course release during their first year. In subsequent years, faculty may secure additional release time by applying for internal faculty research grants.
